Women without men.
Since the Islamic Republic was established in Iran; in 1979, the apartheid related to women increased. To the rights restriction for the simple fact of having been born a woman, the stoning punishment, for commiting adultery was added, among others. Shahrnush Parsipur bursts into this setting and; he does so through indomitable women, brave and looking forward to existing above the phallic yoke.
Women without men caused a great stir in its native country for dealing with taboo subjects, such as virginity, wish and woman´s sexual freedom.
It is a challenging novel, colourful, of flexible and suggestive writing, with characters as real as magic, as memorable as incredibly fresh. Her passion for literature and her fight for achieving rights equality for women cost the authoress five years imprisonment in her country´s prisons. Nowadays, she goes on with her literary task in exile.
